About Zelas Hype Zela?s Hype was formed in summer of 2006 by front man, Matthew Cayer, brother Michael Cayer, Keegan Metheringham and Bryan Templeman. Matthew had just moved back to Vancouver Island from Toronto and was eager to start a band with his brother Michael. Matthew and Michael both found a job cooking at a local restaurant in Coombs BC, which would turn out to be there future guitarists parents restaurant. With Matthew on vocals, Mike on drums, Keegan fell right in place on guitar and the band was almost complete. During this summer, attending local jam nights with original tunes written by Matthew and Keegan it was very evident the musical relationship between the two was something new and fresh and needed to be unleashed. With the strong response from local musicians the almost complete quartet were convinced they should enter a battle of the bands. Matthew was enrolled in the Music program at Vancouver Island University for a degree in jazz studies where he met guitarist Bryan Templeman. Matthew had mentioned to Bryan he had a band called Zela?s Hype and was in dire straights for a bass player so they could enter the Emergenza Music festival in Vancouver, Byran immediately jumped aboard to complete Zela?s Hype. With the Emegenza Festival in three months Zela?s Hype spent most that time rehearsing to get songs together in time. Zela?s Hype place second in quarter finals and first in the semi finals which brought them to the Vancouver finals at the Plaza Club. Since then Zela?s Hype has recently toured Canada from Vancouver to Halifax in the summer of 2008 with there independently released album ?four burners on?. Zela?s Hype?s ?four burners on? has an original sound pulling from sources such as Delta Blues, 60?s, 70?s, 80?s rock, and psychedelic.
