June Killing Stones (JKS) started in the psyche of its leader Joshua Peters Letkeman circa April 2006, as a side project from his solo acoustic music. Wanting to branch out and play in a heavier rock-indie infused jam band, it slowly evolved over time into his main focus. Recruiting his girlfriend Rachel Burns on bass, they started their lengthy search for the right drummer. This proved to be far more difficult than they could have imagined and the search spanned over the next four years with many false starts. Trying not to feel too discouraged, Joshua and Rachel enlisted the talents of Josh’s younger brother Jeremiah Letkeman as the band’s second guitar player and keyboardist. In early February 2010, after numerous drummer auditions, the lengthy search finally ended with Adam Del. Now with the players in place, June Killing Stones was at last ready to do what it had set out to do when it was only just a seed in the mind of its leader. What that was, was to act as a conduit of human emotion, creating music that is esoterically driven, dark, melodic, emotive, desperate, desolate and heavy. The lyrics speak of fear, death, hope and love and the ability to overcome. One thing the band enjoys is to play off of each other and create a live experience that is never the same twice. It has become the band’s main focus now to play shows and to grow together as a band and garner a dedicated fan base.
