Created under the impulse of the founding members, Alexis Maltais and Alain-Philippe Tran, Evine has been roaming the local music scene since 2010. With the arrival of fellow music accomplices Mat Bois and Jean-Michel Calvé to solidify the lineup, it quickly became apparent that the group’s creative energy poised them to reach greater heights. To this day, this affiliation has given way to a number of shows along with some compelling songwriting, as evidenced in the band’s first demo cd entitled Places We Go.
Not long after the launch of the 4-song demo at Où...Quoi! bar in Hull in June 2011, Evine played the Maniwaki Summer Festival, opening the first set of the show for Marie-Chantale Toupin. With 2012 just around the corner, things are looking promising for the band, who has recently won the first and second round of the province of Québec’s Omnium du Rock band contest. The guys are taking the stage for the contest’s third round on January 28th 2012 at Maverick’s in Ottawa.
Evine is not looking to reinvent the wheel. Simply put, the guys strive to exploit the collective passion they share towards music, all the while endeavouring to come up with something that represents them best musically. The band draws inspiration from multiple musical horizons ranging from Jimmy Eat World, to Simple Plan and Something Corporate, among many other acts.
Blending melodic forcefulness with harmonious arrangements, the synergy that defines the group’s esoteric sound is driven by alternative piano rock with a modern edge. First and foremost however, before attempting to put a label on the group’s unique sense of aesthetics, Evine strives to create epic and unforgettable melodies that are bound to leave an impression even with the most jaded listener.
