Dawn in the City

Dawn In The City was started in Edmonton, Alberta in the summer of 2006 as the brainchild of Bernal Ibarra and Andrea Dawn. Craig Guthrie was added on bass and rhythm guitarist Mike Glessing joined in November 2006. Originally we started playing reggae and ska just to get the ball rolling. We played both covers and originals, striving to be really funky, rhythmic, organic, free and natural but still tight, precise and groovy. Since then, we added many elements of rock, soul, funk and metal to our sound but always kept the reggae influence. Our first show was at On The Rocks in downtown Edmonton in October of 2006. Soon after, we played the Sidetrack Cafe, and then appeared at diverse venues including pubs, clubs, institutions, acreages and underground music halls. Malukai Turnbull came on board in October 2008, adding female vocals, percussion and songwriting to the group. Almost three years later, we 're still hard at it, refining our skills and inspirations to define the Dawn In The City sound, present and future.
