Quickness is a Canadian alternative rock band formed in Vancouver BC Canada. Founding members Jacob Dryden and Ray Garraway first met in the hallways of a Yaletown warehouse rehearsal space in 2009 where they began mashing up Punk Rock with Reggae Ska and club music. Their lyrical imagery is a socially conscious reflection of life in their rapidly expanding western city. “Vancouver has always been a hot spot for great live and recorded music, there are a bunch of great Recording studios and concert venues, and there are thousands of very talented people all vying for a handful of opportunities.”
The current media attention and the ability of Quickness to execute their material live has been crucial for their building momentum. The invitations to play on TV talk shows and the on air radio performances have been the first fruits of their success, and have led to over a hundred performances in the last year alone.
Having just released their first full length album: Anthems For Your Ghettoblaster In june 2011 with singles Start a Fire, Breakdown, Island Life. The band has been embraced by college and mainstream radio, being featured as band of the month on Vancouver’s CFOX fm 99.3 in November 2011, song of the week and album of the week on a handful of BC radio stations and regional music websites and of course making year end top ten lists including top ten albums of 2011 in BC’s largest distributed daily newspaper The Province.
In October 2011 the band moved from trio to quartet adding Mark Olexson to play additional guitars vocals and Keyboards. “This whole experience started out as three guys in a room working up some song ideas and has blossomed into our band travelling around playing music professionally everywhere we can. Our whole concept from the beginning was to mash-up Rock with dub, and now a couple years into the game, we have a dedicated group of amazing fans, a unique and recognizable sound, and a bunch of great songs.
Each of the members of Quickness brings a wealth of experience to the band. Jacob Dryden (Lead Vocals Guitar) built his career performing in Punk rock clubs, Casinos and on Festival stages. Mark Olexson (Vocals Guitar) has toured extensively with Matthew Good, Tal Bachman, 5440. Scott Tucker (Bass) also records and tours with westcoast hip hop artist Kyprios. Ray Garraway (drums) who has records and tours as the drummer for Hip Hop artist K-OS .
Quickness has been hammering away at the westcoast music scene, with performances booked well into 2013, all while writing a new album set for release in spring 2013. “We started recording our 2nd Album in june (2012). This album has more dancehall rock vibe to it, whereas the first record was more alternative reggae rock. A lot of our shows in the past year or so have been crowds that love to dance, and that has really come out in the writing this time. We love to experiment with different genres and mix styles and use fresh production techniques. We have a whole bunch of new songs that we are really excited about. We’re working in our own Studio, the bunker to experiment and perfect the new creations. So much anticipation is building the further we get along with the album, its hard not to share everything with everyone.”

“Quickness, a new band with a punk attitude but accomplished playing, convincing emotion and a selection of good, varied songs.” Dec. 28 2011 tharrison@theprovince.com
“Quickness is Cfox 99.3 Band of the Month for November 2011″ Todd Hancock Cfox FM 99.3 (C) Corus Entertainment 2011 (Published Nov 1st 2011)
“Quickness, with it’s combination of multi-talented musicians delivers a soulful Incubus-like sound with the heart and drive of Stone Temple Pilots. Their seamless melodies never tire of twisting and turning.” Oct 20 2011 – Danica Steward / Toronto Rock Music Examiner
“Album of the week - Quickness: Anthems For Your Ghettoblaster” The Province Newspaper, August 1 2011 Vancouver, BC, Canada
“Quickness is blessed with a talent for writing concise and cohesive songs, smartly contructed and simply stated… As well, Jacob Dryden’s vocals are impassioned and his guitar-playing also suggests a Jimi Hendrix influence, which adds an extra dimension to the band. Quickness sounds more versatile and flexible than it’s rather narrow description indicates.” The Province Newspaper, July 30 2011 tharrison@theprovince.com
‘’Quickness delivers radio rock in all its post-hardcore glory. Soaring melodies and vigorous riffage round out their sound, while echoing hints of reggae and new-age anthem rock. Coupled with skin-tight, K-os certified drummer Ray Garraway, Quickness is unstoppable in its hard-hitting soundscapes. “It’s easy to get into!” exclaims the man behind the kit. Well, that’s an understatement if I ever heard one. Not only are these veterans astounding in their musical accessibility, but lead singer/guitarist Jacob Dryden’s lyrics are simply overflowing with everyman-imagery. It’s the kind of stuff relatable to anyone with a heart and a social conscience, and it makes for some downright feel-good rock-n-roll.‘’ Jan 20 2010 Ben Rowley

Pretty good stuff, Quickness.
I am really enjoying the ride on "This Town". Dig the whole vibe, mood, attitude, subtlety and so on. Great track! I'm a heavy metal dude by nature, but a jam like this can NOT be denied!
Keep the jamz
